Wedding Hair & Makeup Timeline Averages in Texas
A Realistic Guide for Spring & Fall Wedding Mornings
One of the most common questions we receive from couples during the booking process is:
“What time should hair and makeup start?”
And honestly, most couples aren’t supposed to know the answer yet. Your wedding timeline depends on several moving pieces, including your ceremony time, photography coverage, first looks, venue logistics, travel, season, sunset timing, and wedding party size.
After servicing hundreds of Texas weddings each year, we’ve noticed very consistent timing patterns during our busiest seasons. We created this guide to help couples better understand what realistic wedding morning timelines often look like before finalizing details with their vendor team.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
YOUR CEREMONY TIME IS NOT YOUR GLAM END TIME
One of the most common timeline issues we see is couples scheduling beauty services too close to the ceremony. In most cases, we recommend hair and makeup services finish approximately:
2–2.5 hours before your ceremony
Why?
Because your beauty timeline is only one piece of the wedding morning schedule. After services end, most couples still need time for:
• Touch-ups
• Getting dressed
• Jewelry and accessory placement
• Detail photos
• Couple portraits
• Wedding party photos
• First looks
• Transportation
• Buffer time for unexpected delays
Photographers also often arrive while the final beauty service is underway, and most couples prefer to be nearly photo-ready once coverage begins. Building enough room into the schedule helps create a wedding morning that feels calm, organized, and enjoyable — rather than rushed.

AVERAGE WEDDING MORNING TIMELINES WE SEE
These averages are based on real LUX Beauty & Bridal wedding schedules across Austin and Central Texas.
Please note:
• Church weddings and early ceremonies often begin significantly earlier
• Larger wedding parties require more artists and earlier start times
• Multiple locations and travel can impact timing
• Fall and winter weddings may begin earlier due to earlier sunset times and photography restrictions
That said, these are the timing ranges we most consistently see throughout peak wedding season.

SPRING WEDDING TIMELINE AVERAGES (MARCH–MAY)
Spring is one of the busiest wedding seasons in Texas. Mild temperatures and longer daylight hours make afternoon and evening ceremonies especially popular.
Most Common Ceremony Time:
4:30 PM – 6:00 PM
Most Common Hair & Makeup Start Time:
7:00 AM – 9:00 AM
Most Common Hair & Makeup End Time:
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Average Photography Coverage Start Time:
12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Average Spring Sunset Times in Austin:
• March: ~7:30 PM
• April: ~7:50 PM
• May: ~8:15 PM
Because sunset is later during spring, many couples choose:
• Outdoor ceremonies
• Golden hour portraits
• First looks before the ceremony
• Extended portrait coverage
This often means beauty services need to finish earlier than couples initially expect.

FALL WEDDING TIMELINE AVERAGES (SEPTEMBER–NOVEMBER)
Fall is typically the busiest wedding season in Texas overall, especially in October when cooler temperatures and outdoor ceremonies are most popular.
Most Common Ceremony Time:
4:00 PM – 5:30 PM
Most Common Hair & Makeup Start Time:
6:30 AM – 8:30 AM
Most Common Hair & Makeup End Time:
12:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Average Photography Coverage Start Time:
11:30 AM – 1:30 PM
Average Fall Sunset Times in Austin:
• September: ~7:30 PM
• October: ~6:55 PM
• November: ~5:40 PM
As sunset shifts earlier in the fall, photographers often move portrait schedules earlier as well. This can result in earlier glam start times than couples initially anticipate — especially during October and November weddings.

WHY SOME WEDDING MORNINGS START EXTREMELY EARLY
If you see a 5:00 AM or 6:00 AM glam start time on social media, there is usually a reason.
The most common causes include:
• Church ceremonies
• Large wedding parties
• Extensive photography coverage
• Multiple getting-ready locations
• Long travel times
• Tight venue access windows
• Earlier sunset timing
Earlier glam start times are often completely normal for larger or photography-heavy wedding timelines. In many cases, starting earlier actually creates a much more relaxed experience throughout the day.

COMMON TIMELINE CHALLENGES WE HELP COUPLES AVOID
Scheduling Beauty Services Too Close to the Ceremony
This is by far the most common issue we encounter. We strongly recommend avoiding:
• Ceremony start times immediately after glam ends
• Tight transportation windows
• First looks scheduled too closely after services
• Overly compressed photography schedules
A little extra breathing room can make a significant difference in how relaxed your wedding morning feels.
Forgetting About Photography Timing
Your beauty timeline should support your photography schedule — not compete with it.
Most photographers prefer:
• The couple to be nearly photo-ready when they arrive
• Hair and makeup completed before portraits begin
• Time for touch-ups and finishing details before formal coverage starts
Underestimating Getting Ready Time
Getting dressed, accessories, veils, boutonnières, family assistance, and final touch-ups all take time. Most couples need approximately 30–60 minutes after glam ends before they are fully ready for portraits.
Not Building in Buffer Time
Someone may need:
• A lipstick touch-up
• Extra curl hold adjustments
• Help with accessories
• Additional time getting dressed
• A quick hairstyle refinement
Building extra flexibility into the schedule helps the morning feel significantly smoother and more enjoyable for everyone involved.

OUR APPROACH TO WEDDING MORNING TIMELINES
At LUX Beauty & Bridal, our goal is always to create a wedding morning that feels:

A well-structured beauty timeline sets the tone for the rest of the day. We would always rather finish slightly early than have a couple feeling rushed or stressed before walking down the aisle.

HELPFUL PLANNING TIPS FOR COUPLES
If You Haven’t Finalized Your Photography Timeline Yet
It is completely okay to provide estimated ceremony timing when first inquiring about services. Most Texas weddings we see typically fall within:
4:00 PM – 6:00 PM ceremonies
However, because beauty timelines are built around artist availability and existing event schedules, we always recommend finalizing your wedding-day details as early as possible whenever you can. Please keep in mind that all timeline adjustments requested after your booking is finalized are always subject to artist availability.
If You’re Unsure What Time to Include on Your Inquiry Form
These are the timing ranges we most commonly see:
Spring Weddings:
• Ceremony: approximately 5:00 PM
• Beauty end time: approximately 1:30–2:00 PM
Fall Weddings:
• Ceremony: approximately 4:30–5:00 PM
• Beauty end time: approximately 12:30–1:30 PM
These examples simply help provide a general starting point while you continue building out your vendor schedule and overall wedding-day flow.

FINAL THOUGHTS FROM OUR TEAM
When planning your wedding morning timeline, we always recommend:
• Avoiding back-to-back scheduling
• Leaving extra room for transportation and touch-ups
• Considering seasonal sunset timing
• Coordinating closely with your photographer and planner
• Finalizing timeline details as early as possible
One of the biggest things we’ve learned after servicing hundreds of weddings across Texas is that a little extra breathing room can completely change how your morning feels. The couples who enjoy their wedding mornings the most are usually the ones who gave themselves time to slow down, be present, laugh with their people, sip champagne, take photos, and truly soak everything in without feeling rushed from one moment to the next.
Our goal is always to help create a wedding morning that feels calm, seamless, and genuinely enjoyable from start to finish.
If you are unsure what timing to include on your inquiry form, our admin team is always happy to help guide you based on your ceremony plans, venue, season, photography schedule, and wedding party size.
